Getting slammed by more winter weather soon–by Dave Winslow

I’ve heard the general reaction to the thought of “more snow on the way,” not too many positive comments. I understand why, we’ve seen over 51″ of snow this season. People have had enough (with the exception of the snow lovers).  The all time seasonal snowfall record for Sioux City is 72.8″ set back in 1916/1917. If we keep our pace going into March, we’ll beat that record.

So the mess of wintry weather should start out as either freezing drizzle or snow later tonight and tomorrow morning. Here’s a snapshot at 4:30 am Thursday:

Roads might be a little slick with some of this light mix going on.

Thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm:

Another surge of moisture is on the way for Thursday afternoon as we warm above freezing. It should be a combination of rain and snow. It’s concerning how close our temperatures will be to freezing though. I bet we’ll be just above that in town, but northern parts of the area could see some freezing rain for periods. It should change to all snow later Thursday afternoon and night. That snow will continue into Saturday morning leaving us with a sloppy few inches to perhaps over 4″ in spots. Yet another winter system moves in late Sunday and into Monday with a shot of snow, some wind, and Arctic air. This will be a headline making Arctic surge as much of the country will be dealing with the cold. Is there light at the end of the tunnel? It looks like by the end of the week and into the weekend temperatures should warm a bit.
